Archives For Where to send poems for publication

I’d like to promote one of my favorite literary journals, The Comstock Review (TCR). TCR is not affiliated with a university (or with me). It was founded in 1986 by a group of writers in New York state and has been in print for the last 27 years. TCR is particularly friendly to new poets, and I’d like to point you to their website to see why. One feature on their site is a Poet’s Handbook, which covers a wide scope of topics from submitting poems, to poetry groups, to awards and contests. This guide is free and worth looking over for any tips that may apply to your writing projects. Also, there is a consultation service offered by TCR editors where for a small fee ($40 currently) they will critique up to five poems of 40 lines each. This is a great way to build your confidence. The consultation service is done in addition to all of the other editorial jobs, so the response time may not be immediate. The journal’s website is listed below. I have also linked to a great blog post by poet Jeannine Hall Gailey about how to be successful as a writer by not getting in your own way.
